Building Better. Building Relationships. Building Communities.

“For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.”
Hebrews 3:4

Just Working Construction Inc. is a relationship-driven Construction Manager and General Contractor serving ICI and residential clients across Southwestern Ontario. We believe great construction starts with people, not projects.

Our ICI work focuses on collaborative Construction Management, including CCDC 5B projects, where we build relationships with owners, consultants and trade partners from early pre-construction and budgeting through construction, turnover and warranty. Rather than pursuing volume, we focus on a select number of projects where our team can provide the attention, craftsmanship and accountability needed to deliver exceptional results.

Our residential division follows the same philosophy, delivering custom homes, additions and major renovations with a focus on heritage and historic buildings, high-performance construction and thoughtful building practices.

As a faith-driven company, we believe construction should create lasting value beyond the buildings we complete. People come before profit. We invest in relationships, craftsmanship, sustainable building practices and the development of future construction professionals.

Our goal is simple: build better buildings, develop better builders and help create stronger communities for generations to come.

Testimonials

I would like to take this opportunity to provide a brief but sincere message of recommendation for the Just Working Construction Company.

Over the past several months, I have had the opportunity to observe the work practices of Just Working Construction as they erected a completely new home on Regent Street in London, Ontario, directly across the street from my home.

From the very first day on site through to their final day, the Just Working Construction team was truly impressive. Their construction skills were readily apparent and their attention to detail was exemplary. Consequently, purely based on their technical skill, this company is truly deserving of the highest accolades.

Of at least equal importance, the team consistently presented as being highly aware of their work environment and of the neighbouring properties. Throughout the entirety of the project, the team members were hard working, polite, professional. They were also friendly and responsive (even to curious neighbours!). Their work practices were never intrusive to the neighbours and they consistently maintained a safe and neat work site.

It is without hesitation that I would strongly recommend this company for any construction projects.

Congratulations and thanks to the Just Working Construction Company for excellent work and for an impressive finished project.

Our family was truly fortunate to have Just Working Construction design and build our energy-efficient home and we could not speak highly enough about our experiences working with the company and their crew.

Prior to hiring Just Working Construction, we had explored a variety of different options when researching builders and had spoken with numerous companies and organizations. At various points, it became clear to us that many builders aren’t well-versed in environmentally responsible building techniques and were reluctant to take the extra time, care, and effort to do things right. When we did try to talk with other builders in our area about energy-efficient building, default suggestions were usually to use less environmentally-responsible approaches such as spray foam (we had read about spray foam posing long term risks to the integrity of the framing where it is applied). It is not an exaggeration to say that some builders told us that they were only interested in meeting building code requirements and would not recommend taking any additional steps to exceed code.

From the very outset, Just Working approached our project not just as another build, but as family home that we feel confident will stand the test of time into the generations of our family that follow. We spoke weekly throughout the design process and the company welcomed us to play as active a role as we wished throughout the initial planning and decision-making stages. When we sought changes to the plans to better suit our budget, the company were quick to work with us and the architect to realize the necessary changes in a timely manner and took considerable care to arrive at solutions that worked for us. The company shared our passion for making more environmentally-responsible decisions where possible, and were very transparent in presenting us with different materials and approaches along with the environmental benefits and associated costs at every step in the process. We felt like our ideas were truly valued and respected throughout, and the crew showed a genuine enthusiasm when discussing our home with us.

On that note, we have to say that the crew were superb. We had the same people on site from start to finish, so they were intimately familiar with every inch of the build and it was clear that they had very high standards for the quality of their work. Furthermore, we could not have asked for a more courteous, respectful, and friendly crew. My wife frequently commented on what “gentlemen” the crew were (note: the crew was not exclusively male) and several neighbours commented on how approachable, friendly, and professional the crew was. As of this writing, we’ve been in our home for approximately eight months, and we are continually impressed with the quality of the build. In fact, we recently had an energy advisor visit our home who commented that we had “done everything right” from her perspective and she said that our home was the most air-tight that she had ever tested. Indeed, her independent test confirmed that our home—although not a certified passive house—exceeds the air-tightness requirements for passive house construction.

While we don’t doubt that other builders might build more quickly and reduce costs by cutting corners, Just Working Construction created a home for us that exceeded our hopes and expectations. We could not recommend them highly enough.

We were recommended Jeff and his team by a friend and we could not be happier. Jeff came to our home talked about our vision for the house and offered many suggestions that helped improve our initial design. We needed architectural drawings and they were able to recommend a great company that was very budget-friendly. We set a schedule and were ready to renovate. Then Covid-19 started and everything was delayed by the city. Jeff was on top of the crisis and was able to offer updates so we could begin as soon as possible. Once we started his crew was on time, very friendly, and cleaned every night prior to leaving. I was very impressed by his crew. The job lasted 2 months and we are more than happy with the results. We opened up walls and added beams to support the house. We rerouted plumbing and added pot lights throughout the main floor, and we reworked the original stairs in the home to be safer for our children. The team was great and we came in UNDER Budget!!! I would highly recommend Jeff and his team for a home renovation.

Just Working Construction has completed all our projects with professionalism and skill, and we have also appreciated Jeff’s transparency and integrity in working through the costs, timing, and other complexities inherent to the construction process. Jeff and his team understand that our organizational objective to transform the lives of our tenants – many of whom live with disabilities or other barriers to wellness; this means we expect contractors on our sites to play a role in providing safe and inclusive living environments. This is one of the key attributes of Just Working Construction that we appreciate deeply.

We look forward to working with Just Working Construction on future projects of increasing scope and scale as Jeff and his team develop their capacity to take on new opportunities.

We have had fantastic experiences working with Jeff Van Gyssel and Just Working Construction over the past 3 years. With each project, they have been professional and the work has been to the highest design standard. In recent years, they have been pioneering Passive House construction in Ontario. Together, we have worked on several projects.

With each project, they have put a great work ethic and level of quality into the project. Construction has generally been on time and on budget. As the architects on these projects, we have had a very positive working relationship with Just Working. They have been good listeners and team players, and that alone shows me that they have the ability to work on larger projects.

We have worked with several of the different team members and site superintendents with Just Working, all with positive experiences. On a personal note, I really appreciate the values of the company to include newcomers to Canada and others who may have a harder time getting into the workforce. We wish Just Working luck in growing into a larger and more complex commercial construction sector and hope to continue being able to work together on these projects.

Jeff and his team at Just Working did an excellent job renovating our commercial storefront in Hamilton, ON. They were on time and on budget and a great group to have on our property. The attention to detail was top notch and when other subcontractors failed to deliver the level of quality anticipated Jeff made sure that the sub-trade made it right. Just Working came highly recommended to us and we would highly recommend their work to others! Thanks, guys!

Embarking on the journey of building a home was a significant decision for us, and when we decided to prioritize sustainability and energy efficiency, we discovered Jeff at Just Working construction. Our experience with them has been nothing short of exceptional.

From the outset, it was clear that Jeff and his team are deeply committed to sustainable living. Their knowledge and passion for passive home design were evident in every interaction we had with them. They took the time to understand our goals, preferences, and lifestyle, ensuring that our home would not only be environmentally friendly but also comfortable and functional.

We also wanted to build a home that enabled us to age in place and allowed our parents to live with us if the need arose. Jeff’s presence in our community and his vision of building intergenerational housing very much aligned with our family values.

They employed innovative strategies to maximize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact, such as high levels of insulation, airtight construction, and advanced ventilation systems and educated us along the way. The result was a stunning, custom home that is very comfortable and significantly reduces our energy consumption.

Moreover, Jeff and his team prioritized quality and attention to detail throughout the construction process. Every aspect of our home was thoughtfully planned and executed. Their dedication to excellence ensured that our home not only met but exceeded our expectations.
